These screen captures will help users navigate the
Elluminate / Online Live and Lab-on-Demand environments.

Tip:  Within Internet Explorer press the F11 Function Key
to show a screen capture in full screen mode.

Accessing the Lab-on-Demand Environment

After logging on at http://ML.newhorizons.com click on the "My Transcript" link.

 

Alternately you can use http://LMS.NHCMS.net.

Click on the link of the course containing the lab you wish to launch.

Scroll through the list of available labs (look for the green Erlenmeyer flasks) and then click on the blue "Launch" button of the lab you wish to launch.

Next (depending on your browser version) you will need to click on a very faint yellow ribbon at the top of your browser, then choose "Install This Add-on for All Users on This Computer...".

When prompted at the VMRC ActiveX Control Security Warning click on the "Install" button.

At the "Connecting for the first time" page click on the "Continue" button.

At the "Unencrypted Connection" prompt click on the "Don't ask me again" check box and then the "Yes" button.

At the "NTLM Authentication" prompt click on the "Don't ask me again" check box and then the "Yes" button.

You have now opened up your Lab Environment

Maximize your browser (or Restore, then Maximize) to have the lab screen resolution maximize

Each lab will open with an Objective and a Scenario.

Each exercise will also have an introduction.

There are two ways to initiate the logon sequence:

  1. Use the Right-Alt key + Del (the one above the arrow keys)

  2. Use the "Machine Commands" menu at the top of the Lab on Demand environment.

 

Select the proper Logon account.

You may manually enter the virtual machine password, or, usually better, use the "Paste Password" option from the Lab on Demand "Machine Commands" menu.

After each and every lab step please click on the green "Done" button to indicate progress.

Not every lab has this progress tracking feature.

If the lab involves multiple virtual machines you may have to switch virtual machines using the "Machines" button.

Use the "Idea Box" (when prompted) to obtain code, or useful hints.

 

Suggestion: select the text or code in the Idea window, right click and copy it to the clipboard. Then, from the "Machine Commands" window choose "Paste Clipboard Text".

Use the "Screenshot" button (looks like a camera with a green background) when you don't understand what visual element to interact with.

To save your current Lab for later use...

How to save a Lab so that you can resume it later.

Click on the tiny "Exit" button in the far upper right of the Lab-on-Demand environment.

Click on the "Save and close" menu item.

Confirm that you want to save your lab.

Some of the labs permit the creation of a Restore Point

Prompt to create a Restore Point.

Not all courses support Restore Points. This allows you to "rewind" within a single lab session.

The instructor is able to remotely view a thumbnail and full screen view of your lab, and, remote control your lab should you need assistance.

 

 

 

NOTE:  Viewing recorded sessions is no longer available (as of some time in late 2010).

Online Live, Viewing Recorded Sessions

Log in to the CMS.

Click on the "My Transcript" Button.

Locate the desired course containing your desired recorded sessions.

Click on the link of the desired course.

The desired course displays.

Click on the course link under the "Enrollment Details" section.

The "Recordings" link is now visible. Click on that link.

There will be a "Watch" link representing each day's recordings for a particular class.

Click on the appropriate link.

 The Elluminate environment is launched.

Launch progress is displayed.

The user may be prompted as to whether the Elluminate environment is permitted through the Windows Firewall.

Choose "Unblock".

The Recording is streamed and streaming progress is indicated.

Observe the slider control at the bottom of the Elluminate environment, which is used for sliding forward or backward in the recording timeline.
